It's frustrating to keep having more basal cell carcinomas keep showing up. I've had several removed by Dr. Agha and it's pretty painless, but the one near the crease of my mouth was the worst. Soft and subtle is the name of the game We often imagine that getting fillers done means that you end up looking fake and unnatural. Mohs surgery is a simple but multi-step approach to removing skin cancer with the goal of tissue conservation. First, the site is locally numbed, and a thin layer of tissue is removed. The site is covered with a temporary but comfortable bandage while the specimen is examined. In the on-site lab, the specimen is frozen in a cryostat to -25°C so it can be cut into very thin slices. The frozen specimen is then examined under a powerful microscope to check if there are any cancer cells present at the edges. If there is cancer present in the specimen, the surgeon removes another layer from the patient and the freezing and examining is repeated.
