Spider Veins

Spider veins, also known as spider telangiectasias, are web-like veins you may have noticed on your hands, face, legs, or other body parts. These enlarged capillaries close to the skin's surface are the source of these prominent veins. They may have a vibrant appearance, red, purple, or blue. In contrast to varicose veins, spider veins are not typically elevated, bulging, or painful.

Spider telangiectasias warn that something is wrong, even though you may consider them cosmetic issues. Spider veins are a sign of venous insufficiency or underlying vein disease. Vein disease, if neglected, can result in life-threatening illnesses such as blood clots and venous ulcers (open, non-healing wounds).
